Creative Thinking Techniques

To help us with our idea generation for the project, Ian, one of our tutors gave us some techniques-

-Mind mapping

-Six thinking hats

-SCAMPER

-Lotus Blossom

-Classic Brainstorming

-The checklist (Five W and H)

-Lateral thinking

-Metaphorical thinking

-Random word

In groups we had to present each technique, showing how they work and why they are effective. My group was given brainstorming: Brainstorming is a group or individual creativity technique by which efforts are made to find a conclusion for a specific problem by gathering a list of ideas spontaneously contributed by its members.

My favourite technique is metaphorical thinking where you us comparisons to express ideas and solve problems. A direct comparison between two unrelated or indirectly linked things is called a metaphor. Here we can use the metaphor to explain an idea, which I think is very clever. For example ‘No one grows ketchup like Heinz.’
